Max stroke of a 305

Sorry in my previous post i meant to say stroke instead of bore, i got the two words confused.

What is the maximum stroke i can do to my 305 i have right now. I hope one day to get a 383 so if i can use my current engine just with a rebuild kit and a 383 stroker kit, i'll be fine.

I am going to put a 400 crank and short rods in my stock bore 305 making a cheap 329 engine. This is when I rering the engine.

you can't make a 383 out of a 305.

and a lot of 305s vary slightly from year to year (according to chiltons) so I'm not sure. But I'd say a 335 is what you get when you stroke a bored 305.

You stroke for power, you bore to clean up the cylinders.

yeah i finally found this out in the other board.

Hmmmmm.... so all i'll need is a 383 stroker kit, for my LB9(86), to amke it a 383. I think what i'm gonan do then is just bore it out put the 383 kit in, convert it to roller camshaft, and a few other small things. But that'll make the power i want, about 350HP to the rear wheels, with my soon to come MiniRam.

No you can't make a 305 into 383 or a 4" bore engine. The max you can bore a 305 is +.06" to 3.796.

You can make a 350 a 383. But not a 305, as mentioned before.

if you could manage a 4" stroke in a 305 that would wind up at 356 cubes (assuming .030 over).

seriously though, go to a junkyard, and pick your self up a 350 block for about $40. you'll thank yourself later.
