car died on the interstate
T/A w/stock 350tpi Car died while crusing on the interstate.. boom sound (which appeared to come from the exhaust in the back) and smoke out the tailpipes (as was described to me by the people behind me who pulled over to help). Schrader valve appeared loose and was leaking a little gas, but stopped when I tightened the stem inside it (maybe from the injectior cleaner service I had done a few weeks ago?). New walbro pump same time, still hear it whining... it appears that my coil is getting power but not giving spark (which made me think of a backfire causing the boom). I swapped on my old coil that had started to arc some but had not died on me. car still won't start. computer not generating any error codes. got towed back to my apt. and while maneuvering it into a parking spot, power steering begins to leak out of the fill tube. there appears to be some oil that had ran down my lower radiator hose, but it's not dripping... 190k on the engine so I know it's time for a new one. Any suggestions on what to test just to get the damn thing to run? I'll be checkin it out in more detail later on today and tomorrow after work. Thanks

what color was the smoke out the back when it happened? sounds like you might have blown your head gasket to me. with 190k on it i wouldnt doubt it.

190K??? Timing chain maybe? That would explain the backfire, and loss of ignition if the distributor isn't turning. No matter what coil etc you put in.
Of course you really didn't say if you got spark with the second coil you tried...
