Idle problems, either it's too high, or non- existant!
To start with, ive got an 86 Z28 with 350, non CC q-jet and Vacc. adv distributer. When i start it up in the mornings, it idles just fine. But when i put it in reverse and back out of my driveway, one of two things happens when i put the clutch back in: It will idle, but at a high speed of around 1100 rpms; or it will have nothing to do with idling, and die as soon as i take my foot off the gas and put the clutch in. when it does this it continues to do so for the entire trip to school. One other note, every time it decides not to idle, it is raining, thats about the only constant in the problem. Does anyone have any clue as to why it does this? does my car just not like the rain? it only started to do this about a week after the distributer swap, could that have an effect on it? please help me out here, this is my daily driver so its gotta be running, no matter what the weather. If you need more info on the car or anything go to my site and click on Camaro info. thanks for your help!!

Zup,
I'd take a really close look at the distributor cap, rotor, coil, and plug wires. You should also spend some time with your choke plates and linkages, the high idle cam, the choke heater, choke pull-off unit, and oil pressure switch (drives the choke heater).
One or both of these may not be completely reliable.

just a little update on my situation: I started the car today and drove it, it idled upwards of 1000 again i retarded the timing a bit so it's down to about 700 where it should be and i havn't had any problems yet. To answer the water leakage question i checked out the weatherstriping and it looks brand new, its seems to be sealing right too, so thats probably not the problem. I really think it's got something to do with the choke on the carb, since i Know nothing about carbs, its going back to dumba$$ engine guy and he is gonna fix it for free (whether he likes it or not)...
BTW another thing i've noticed about the problem is every time it has done it, it had stalled on the warm up, and was being driven rather on the cold side, could this have anything to do with the problem? keep in mind that once it starts acting up, it doesnt stop...
