Cam for LG4?

I've got a stock LG4 in my bird with lots of $ in other mods right now. flowtech headers going on with 3" cat and cat back for later (next engine in a year or two) Meanwhile this motor needs some life and it is a roller block (centre bolt valve covers) so i was wondering if there was an easy way to cam this engine on a budget and without too much in the way of new parts? I am new to this stuff so speak slowly and i promise to get help before i wreck anything
Thanks, Tim

luckily your LG4 is an 87 so you have a roller cam

that makes things cheaper if you want to retain a roller cam

F-Bird'88 knows of a really great little roller cam that GM uses in their 383 truck engines. It was available from Competition Products for something like $40 brand new. That is a steal for a new roller cam.

PM him and find out which one it is. It has great numbers for a nicely modified 305, should give you lots of torque down low and a lot more hp up top

here's the cam

If you have the "peanut cam in your 305 now this will help. will want some gear thou.

I also like the Cam in the Ramjet 350 crate motor.

Short(er) duration and higher lift than above.
But bigger and better than the lil cam you have now.
GMPN #
Camshaft: GM PN 14097395 hydraulic roller; 196/205 degrees duration at 0.050-inch tappet lift,
.431"/.451" w/1.5 rockers
0.460/0.481-inch lift (with 1.6:1 rockers)
More lift and area under the curve, should make good torque and power and maintain the low end grunt in a otherwise near stock LG4.
probabily should use LT4 style or better valve springs w/ 1.6 rockers.

Possible cheap source is GM Dealers that sell "upgraded" Crate Motors like Sallee Chevrolet or Pace Chevrolet.
They sell off lots of "take off parts"

Is that competition products cam the same as the stock 350 tpi cam? Would that much lobe seperation on that cam kill bottom end torque on a carburated car?
91tealRS -how do you like your xr252 cam?
