can i seal a hole in plastic???

i got a really really small leak in my power steering pump other then leaking fluid it works great. is there anything i can use to seal the leak (cover hole)??? maby some glue or a patch for tires or something along those lines, there gotta be something. any idea what i could use???

you could try JB Weld, but to seal it properly you really need to do it from inside, which means removing the pump, draining it and getting the area to be repaired VERY clean. Then there is always the possibility that the JB will break off and get in the pump or gear box and mess things up.

if you could figure out what kind of plastic it is you could glue a patch on it and it should be good as new.

If it's your pump reservoir, chances are it's glass-reinforced ABS. You can plastic weld that fairly easily, but it has to be removed, cleaned, and dried so there are no traces of oil remaining before the weld.

If you have the time to do that, it's worth a try. If not, you might want to get a used pump and switch reserviors (or entire pumps).
