Help with Daily Driver...Tranny Problems

Like i said in my Previous post I have a 95 Dodge Avenger with a 2.5L V6. It has a 4 speed auto w/OD off. When come to a hard stop and try to go again the tranny doesn't engage. The motors spins freely up to about 2500 then grabs and the car pulls away like I did a neutral drop at 2500. Anyone have any ideas on this one? BTW: The Check Engine light came on when this started occuring. (unsure if it is coincidence or not).

thanks,
Lars

i think what is probablt happening is this: the trans in computer controlled. there is an obvious problem with the trans. that is why the "check engine" light is on. they also have a "limp home" mode that forces the trans into 1st or 2nd gear. sounds like that is what's happening. have a garage check the codes and see what comes up.
