Cam Duration

Looking at several cams around 215-224 duration with a 112-114 LSA, and wondered if there is any thing in cam designs I should look at that could effect DCR or compression negatively.

Is there a way to look at cam design to tell if it will lower Compression over another design, most 112-114 Street cams have advance and 110 roughly CL when installed, if what I was told is correct.

Just looking at options over 212-218 444 litt cam we are using that will not hurt compression or may help, if any/

If you heads flow fairly well and you have ported your TPI intake (top to bottom) and you have headers, then I highly recommend the cam that I run (comp cams XR276HR-12) and the corresponding cam kit (springs, locks, retainers).

It's an AWESOME cam!

i would contact the cam companies, and get the actualy valve event timing on them. the actualy timing of each event is what is going to effect the DCR.

then use a calc to figure out how the DCR is effected by each cam. this is not going to take into effect the diffrence in lobe designs. the opening and closing of the ramps are going to play a roll in the power each makes, but you can check your DCR if you know the timing.

Truck, 93, UNFORTUNATELY, has a TBI 590 CFM police 68 style flow matched injectors, heads two sets now using shaved .020 SR Pro 76 cc 1.94 valves (FEL PRO 1094 .015 gasket) (40 Quench)Also have a set of bare Pro 2.02's waiting for next year upgrade to 383, exhaust similar to truck manifold they use on Sprint cars because Summit shorties leaked, manifold 3704-selling TBI manifold, non 180 manifold or holley bolt pattern with adapter type, 3" Exh.pipe, 40 series flow master 2 x 2.5 outlets, high flow cat, 3.42 gears for now, motor has about 9800 miles on 40 over 350 4 bolt main motor, ARP rod bolts/resized HP rods etc. Pro Topline Heads, D chamber unfortunately. Proform Distributor and MSD coil. Wants to run higher then stock tach reads out need to modify, off 25 % and looking at PROM programing or a least readout, but WinALDL may not work on ECM since told it's faster ECM to work 4L60E transmission, new shift kit. Using 1.6 Comp Roller Rockers, but cams as I try diferent types, have used Hydraulic's not rollers, which comp/crane/lunati make with 112-115 LSA and descent Lift, increased due to rockers. Hot cams some claim also worked, not sure yet.

There's a DCR calculator here. They say use .050 valve timing, that other site says use advertised valve timing.
I haven't bothered to compare the figures that you get using one or the other.
Hope this helps.
