Important question, please help!

Did Chevy use the same heads for the L98 and the 305 TPIs? Also, what is the max lift for these heads?

I know they used the same intake with different injector sizes, I heard they used the same heads.

BTW, what is a 305 TPI's proper designation?

i believe the l98 heads are larger across the chamber, or another way there is more metal between chambers, and uses larger valves than a 305. the max cam lift is in the .47 range.

The L98 used 64 cc 1.94 1.50 heads

The LB9 (305 TPI) Used 50-something cc heads with smaller valves I can't remember right now

LB9 is the term for 305 TPI.
They come with 58cc heads, with 1.84/1.40 valves.

L98 is the term for 350 TPI.
They come with 64cc heads, with 1.94/1.50 valves.

I believe the original factory RPO had to be shortened because it didn't fit the three-character format. The original RPO designation was something like "ANCHOR"....

Hey, don't argue with me - I've GOT one. O.K! (Actually, it could be worse, but Metallica's next verse should have been "Gimme cubes, Gimme tires, Gimme cams that lift 'em Higher")

Y'know, I come on here in the sparse moments I have to myself to relax, and I invariably come across these seemingly mundane threads, and just as invariably (maybe I should take this as a hint?) I come across a 'VADER' post that has the eldritch effect of causing me to loose conscious control of my beverage and, as always, winds up in either my keyboard, or on my monitor...
but ya know what big V? I had just finished! So there...
Now how do I get the burn to stop in my nose?

Joel,

To my knowledge, teh L98 designation was for either the iron case/aluminum head engines used in the Corvettes ('Y' body) or the iron case/iron head engine used in 'F' cars. This is very similar to the LT1 designation being used for both the iron and aluminum-headed engines used in several platforms.

I don't recall seeing the 'L89' designation for a GM engine. There was an 'L80' but it was a 152 CID V-6, and an 'L69' that was a 305 carbed HO,
