Starter Clicks- ASAP Please

I searched the archives, and couldn't find out for sure.
Is this my solenoid? I have tight connections at the batter, and the battery is good.
If I just use a screw driver on the terminals of the starter, will it probably start, I only need to get my car home.
If I can use the screw driver, the key just has to be in the run position right?

thanks, sorry for the blunt explanation.

Justin

If your started clicks then the solenoid is working and it means your starter motor is bad. your battery charge could be low too though...if it isn't than definetly the starter motor.

So I probably can't short the terminals out w/a screw driver?

Probably not, but you can try it. Try hitting the starter with a hammer a few times too, that works sometimes in a pinch.

Sure, you can try jumping the terminals with a screwdriver, can't hurt. Usually when they click though, it's either your battery is too low to turn the starter motor, or the solenoid or starter motor itself is going bad. Try jumping it from another car, and if that doesn't do it, it's probably the starter motor.

Thanks for the help.
I jacked the car up outside in the 15 degree weather, and loosened the starter, hit it with a hammer, snugged the bolts up(not tight), and hit the key. No go, so I just jumped the two terminals, and it cranked.
What would that be? I got it home, shut it off, and tried again, and now it works. Or at least it did for 3 starts.
What do you think the problem is? I'm getting a new starter anyway, but?

Thanks

Justin
