P.S. I have a 400 bare block and a 305 complete engine.

You can "adapt" just about everything but the pistons.

yeah cost would be the only thing to stop you from using everything but the pistons. maybe few minor things related to 1 piece seal and roller cam 305.

IIRC, the 305 crank and the 350 cranks are the exact same, except they are balanced differently. With that being said you would end up with a 377 ci motor i do believe.

if your going for proformance you wouldnt want that little 305 cam in there.. and if its a roller cam that would make it kinda hard.. you wouldnt want that restrictive tpi setup on it and you wouldnt put stock 305 heads on it.. maybe after some machine work you might wanna put the heads on it as a cheap type of proformance head (larger valves, bowl blending, porting, etc)

I dont think you read my post i have almost no money, this is kind of a starting point. In theory with the larger displament (it will end up being 372, i wont have it bored out) means more power then the 305.

P.S. Well after a little math i figure i will end up with 11:1 compression.

make sure you have the crank rebalanced as the 400 pistons will throw off the balance of the 305 crank, as is was balanced for little pistons.

thats debateable.. depends on factors like timing, head composition, and valve timing.. thats kind of high for 93 octane in an iron headed engine IMO, I'd try to keep it around 10.1 with iron heads

what do you suggest to lower the compression? I cant do anything about the stroke or heads.

You can select different pistons. That is the easiest, most common way to adjust the compression. There all sorts of various pistons available. When you buy the pistons, you will notice that most manufacturers give the compression with a 64cc chamber. If the compression is not to your liking, look at a different set of pistons.

Those are dished, or reverse dome. 22cc dish. They also offer 30cc dish, which lowers the ratio a bit more.

granted that piston is .030 over, but summit also sells standard sizes. That should be a good street compression. Call them and they will tell you the part number you need.

* Compression ratio: 10.4:1 (58cc heads), 9.9:1 (62cc heads), 9.8:1 (64cc heads), 8.8:1 (76cc heads)

9.8:1 compression sound just right (64cc 305 heads)
