Need some input here, ASAP..

The 90 Continental we have cracked a head. Well, more than cracked, there's a 1/16" diameter hole between the valves. Took both heads to the machine shop, the dude says he fixed the hole, pressure tested and resurfaced them.

My options are this:
A. get a reman head from autozone
B. use the "fixed" head

These are 3.8 aluminum heads, we can't find suitable heads in any junkyards around here.

I'd prefer to not use a reman head, but I'm wondering, would a fixed head from a reputable shop be better?

if you prefer to buy a rebuilt head do it, i'd guess the cost would be close. as for a good shop welding the head and doing any other repairs that shouldn't be a problem either. aluminum is easy to weld, won't crack as easy as iron and if it's leak tested you don't have much to worry about.

The cost is actually $75 more to get the reman from Autozone, but I'd rather have the fixed original head just because I don't trust remanufactured parts.

i think i'd prefer to have my own part repaired, if it were me i'd weld it myself you should be fine having a shop fix it.

Aluminum castings are usually very repairable, more so than cast iron. If you trust the guy who did the work (like if he's your regular machine shop guy) then I think you should use the head.

A reman head probably got reman'ed for something not too different, so I doubt you'd really be getting ahead very much.
