Broken grade 8 bolt in crankshaft
Broken grade 8 bolt in crankshaft
So there I was, pulling the harmonic dampner on with the bolt that holds on the dampner and pully to the crankshaft.... and all of the sudden... snap... i broke the bolt. Its recessed into the crankshaft about a centimeter... does anybody out there have any how to articles or info on how to remove broken grade 8 bolts?

they make tools for pressing the damper onto the cranks. i'd take the crank to a machine shop and let them do it. i had 2 broke bolts removed from flywheel flange for 20 dollars. if you're set on removing the bolt, you could try a punch and hammer and see if it'll turn out ,it may not be tight. drill it and use an easy out, but i don't like them. weld a nut on the broke bolt and wrench it out, but being the crank you'd have to be very careful.
