Most of the time, the casting date G148 would mean the part was cast on July (letter G is the 7th month) 14, 1988. Sometimes you have to decide if the 8 would be 1958, '68, '78, '88, or '98. However in your situation, the clues you give mean it is most likely 1988. With a casting date this late in the model year (remember-the new cars usually came out in August or September and a casting date is usually a few weeks to a couple of months ahead of the car's actual build date), in all likelyhood, your engine is from a 1989 model.

U know what im an idiot i forget to write down that i had the motor rebuild and there was a crack in the block and the machinest asked if i wanted a new block so i said yeah and I just want to make sure if he jipped me or not the casting number i gave u was from the new block that he installed(hopefully) i dont think its an 89 because the back on the computer the code says from 87 to 88 i know its sounds stupid but is there a difference between an 87 and 88 and if so what r they.
Once again i apologize.
thank u

As long as it is a roller cam block, there should be very little difference. Once again, the casting number says it was made in 1988 but most likely came out in an '89 vehicle.
