305 Heads

Any ideas for a fairly easy to get set of heads for a moderate performance 305 ? I am looking for ones that bolt up w/o alot of work needed.......Thanks for any opinions

Check the classified board. Usually some on there every now and then.

If your looking for them to just bolt on then you will want 081 castings if you have an 87-92. Pre-87 engine and you will want 416 casting. Do not get the 187 casting, those are the swirl port heads (LO3).

if you want, I know a good buddy selling his GM performance bowtie heads. already ported, polished, oversized manley valves, hot tanked, magnafluxed, and painted black. hardened seats, good springs, the springs can handle up to .600" inches of lift. let me know if you're interested. it comes with the valves and springs. just needs rockers.

They do not need modified to fit a 305 block, but you will more than likely you will lose compression. Actually, you will if your going from 58cc to a higher volume chamber size, such as 64cc heads.

Keeping TPI is not a problem here.

The heads on your car are the garbage 187's and have 58cc chambers.

1990 formula 5.0 "F" engine will have the 081 heads. Not the swirl port heads everyone is afraid of. The 081 heads respond well to a mild port job. Thye are 58cc combustion chamber. 1.84" intake valves, 1.50" exhaust valves

Yeah, his sig says he has a 305 TPI, so his heads are the 081s ready for a good port and polish.

Follow the link at the end of my sig.

I geuss it pays to read the fine print. Yea your stock heads are fine and I would just port them. They can become real good performers with some port work.

Can you run heads with 2.02 intake and 1.5 exhaust on a 305?

From reading other posts, I think that 2.02 is too large, you will have clearance problems with them. Even if you could run them, I think there's no need to go that large.

This is correct. Even if you did have proper clearance they would not be benficial because the valve will shroud incomming air from the side that is closest to the cylinder wall. A 1.94 intake valve will make more power.

A racing style 1.84 will even make more than 1.94 in the horsepower race.

huh?

Are you talking in terms of a 305 cubic inch motor?
Guys on this board have gotten 220cfm flow at 28" and 0.5000" lift for intake using 1.84 inch valves which is plenty of flow for a 305 yes...but can you provide some proof of your blanket statement or explain???
