Engine Mods
I just bought a 88 IROC-Z last summer in a as is state and I am going through it right now. It smokes blue on start up and rear seal leaks bad, so I am pulling the engine. So far I have done the following;
Cut off bottom of airbox and put in K/N filters.
Installed adjustable fuel regulator.TPIS
Installed air foil. TPIS
Dynomax catback already on it.
Put in 180 thermostat and lower temp fan switch by Hypertech.
New plug wires. TPIS
Ported upper intake plenum. TPIS insider book
Ported lower intake.TPIS insider book
I have friends that own a machine shop and we are going to take the heads and put in screw in rocker arm studs, new guides, next size larger valves (manleys), and port and polish them. I need some insite on a camshaft and rocker arm selection for what I have done so far and do I need to change to different valve springs? This engine only has 55,000 miles on it but was in storage a lot. TPIS is also going to clean and blueprint my fuel injectors because it starts hard when warm due to leaking. Thanks MINN IROC-Z. (I can't wait until this damn snow melts so I can kick a little Mustang *** )

what is the 3th digit of your vin. 8 or F. basically is it a 350 or a 305. i think you have to judge the cam on that.

I think its the 8th digit of your VIN that tells you what enigne it is.
In my opinion, you might as well get new vavle seals and new springs while you are doing all that head work. The new seals will probably clear up your oil buring problem thats the blue smoke on start up. Also when you get the new cam, get a new timing chain set. Even though your engine only has 55K miles, a SBC needs a new timing chain somewhere between 60K-80K miles, so you might as well do it now while the engine is in pieces. I also would look into purchasing a set of headers. With your current mods, a set of headers alone will add a good 30 horsepower. But we will need some information on what engine yours is before we can help on selecting the proper cam for it.

My engine is a 350 TPI and RPO code is B2L which is 230hp. How about the factory converter? Are they pretty restrictive being I only have one unlike others that have two? And how come my rearend being posi (borg warner) sometimes only squeals one tire and other times two? Thanks for the advice so far and I will get a new timing chain because it would be stupid not to do it while I'm in there. MINN IROC-Z
