my engine is stalling
my engine is stalling
Sorry for my ignorance I'm new at this. I bought my 1988 Trans am GTA Notchback with a V-8 305 last summer. I soon figured out the only problem with the engine is that from time to time it would stall. It would usually stall after I start the engine. At that point it would be reving very low. How can I remedy this?
It could be a great many number of things. Are there any other specifics you could give us? Temperature when this happens, type of fuel delivery (carbed, TBI, TPI), how many miles it has on it, what's been replaced recently.. Anything could help.

Well its a 305 TPI only has about 85K. Everything is stock. I also changed the spark plugs recently. The engine doesn't seem to stall as often when its hot or in a warm place. I usually have to press on the gas while I start the engine (even though its fuel injected) to start it most of the time.
The first thing I would do is get a can of throttle body cleaner and remove the air intake bellows. Then spray out the throttle body and especially the IAC passage with the engine running (but don't do it with the engine running at full temperature or it could be unsafe). Try that first since it is easy and made mine quit stalling, and then get back to us with more detailed info. Good luck.

I had the same problem. It would fir right up and then stall 3 secs later. I would have to start it then tap the gas for a little then it would idle. When warmed up it would fire no prob. I adjusted the min. air to compensate but then it would idle ridiculously high after it warmed up. I got a new IAC motor and reset my min air and tps voltage and never had a prob since.
