Why do I have an "out of gas" siren on my car?
Why do I have an "out of gas" siren on my car?
When ever I am outta gas or really low it sounds like my fuel pump makes sortofa faint train horn kinda sound. It's pretty freaking annoying..I can make it go away by releasing pressure from the tank..I always tell people that gas lights are gay and GM agree's that's why they have a quite gas alarm. No one really believes me but yea..why does it do that?

That's so that ordinary bystanders can be alerted to your plight so that they may enjoy a good laugh at your situation.

When mine gets to 1/8th tank, EVERYTIME I make a right hand turn fairly hard, I loose power, like I ran out of gas. Once I straighten out, it take about a second to recover. And you thought yours was weard!

Yarnboy that sound is probably your pump starting to suck air, and R.O.B. your gas is sloshing to the outside of the turn and away from the pickup and leaving your engine starved.
Not enough fuel is not only a good way to get smoked by Gino in his 91 Civic Si, it's also bad for you fuel pump.

Yea but it's after the car is turned off..I have no idea if it does it while it's running..my exhaust is just a little too loud to hear it. Didn't 1LE's solve the fuel starvation problem? I wanna do the same thing..I never have more than a quarter tank so I ALWAYS either get completely starved of fuel or just enuogh that it feels like I'm driving my girlfriends Corrola. It is kinda cool when it kicks back in though...Thanks for the reply

Same here, it throws ya off when you are trying to power round a corner, and the car dies till ya straighten her up. It scares you, I thinking I blew something, then I relize my gas is at 1/8 of a tank.

I used to let it run down that low all the time... then my fuel pump died, and I had to drop the tank. I assume I helped to burn it out from all those times of letting it run dry- now I never let it scratch E unless there's absolutely no choice. I'm not going through that hell again

If it happens when the pump is stopped then it's probably air venting through the pump.
When I was in college(freshmen year) I ALWAYS ran on half a quarter of a tank because I was always broke. I've never lost power making sharp turns. I guess the special fuel pickup/baffled tank in 1le cars does work.
