Header wrap, good or bad

I have slp headers and I'm curious if wrapping the headers will produce any hp gains. What are the advantages other than a lower underhood temp.
If the headers are hot doesn't that mean the cat conv. is going to work better since it likes hotter gas?

i used header wrap on my triumph spitfire roadracer and it caused the header to crack. this car did have higher exhaust temps than a street car would. I put it on the y pipe in my camaro because it is right next to the oil pan. No probs yet

DO NOT WRAP YOUR HEADERS.

IT IS BAD FOR THEM AND MOST IF NOT ALL COMPANIES WILL NOT HONOR WARRANTIES IF YOU WRAP EM.

DO A SEARCH FOR WRAP AND SEE ALL THE POSTS

Okay, but I'm asking because I just want to pass NJ emissions with a 330hp engine and it's getting really hard. I don't have EGR on this engine and that might be a big factor. So I wanted to wrap to pass and help the cat out. Then take it off, does that sound right? Now back to the question, will the header wrap help with my emission?

i'm not sure how much it will help with emmissions, but it will be very helpful if you want a new car and have full coverage!

I contacted slp and they said that wrapping thiers would crack the header so I wouldn't try it.

A V6-owner (fourth gen, 3.8) wrapped his headers. The thing ran great- until the wrap caught fire! I'd save that stuff for the race-only cars, not the daily drivers.

Not only will it crack your headers, especially if not stainless steel, but if you have a valve cover leak and it coats it with oil, look out, FIRE!
Wrapping them keeps the exhaust gases hotter which means it is easier to push out of the pipe, hence a very small amount of hp gain.
Would make the cat a little hotter, but I doubt it would make it hot enough to pass if you aren't passing emissions now.
If you have an adjustable FP reg, turn the fp down as low as you can get it and still run the car, or you have electronic fuel injection, you could make a special chip to put in just for emissions testing
