Valve lash with car running..starting point?

How do I ballpark the valve lash prior to setting the lash with the car running?

Make sure the valve is closed (numerous posts on how to verify this). Either rotate the pushrods in your fingertips or wiggle it up and down tighten down on the adjusting nut until there is no slack. That is zero lash. Then follow instructions from cam/rocker manufacturer. Some say 1/4 turn past 0 lash and some say a full turn. Just depends.

This is for hydraulic lifters also. Solid is a whole diff. ball game..
