strange problem after hi flow base install...

timing is set at 10*. car idles fine in park or neutral, no misses, no crossed wires, no vaccum leaks that i can hear.

the problem is when i am driving along or when i first put it in gear. when car's moving most noticeably in OD i can feel slight jerking. the main thing is when i put it in gear. doesn't matter which one. when first out of park or neutral it will go into gear fine. but when i stall the converter with my foot on the brake, at about exactly 1000 RPMs it will begin to stumble badly and die. if i get a chance to put it back in neutral as it's stumbling, it stops and the motor starts to idle fine again. but most of the time it dies too fast for me to recover it. originally i thought i had crossed some wires or left a connector unplugged or even had PROM problems with the new intake but the motor revs just fine in park or neutral.

i'll keep checkin tomorrow when its daylight out. right now the only other thing i can think of is the converter just went bad but i dont see how when it was working perfectly before.

TIA

I'm having similar problem into a V6 since I replaced filter x K&N and others (clean intake, TBI, etc.).

Well, :

First: 10º is too little advance. At this I got BLM = 156 at idle (only air into the motor). Try 16, 20 ,22º advance at idle and check performance in gear. In this range, my BLM was down @ 147, 141,139, etc..

Second: I did the famous "IAC TPS adjustment" from Tech section at this forum and engine ran better.

Third: Problem is not completely solved yet. I suspect about more restrictions in the air way from intake to exhaust. I'm reviewing again.

problem solved

turned out to be a bad EGR. i used the valve that came with the base thinkin it was good. just took that one out and put in the one from my old intake. no more problems.

thought i'd ask. any difference internally between the valves with the temp sensor on it and the ones without it? the one that was giving me problems had the hole for the sensor on it, but it's just a threaded sealed hole. my factory one has no temp sensor. is the reason why i had problems b/c it's the wrong one for the car or would that one work too but it's just defective?

What??? The stock setting on a TPI car is 6* advance!!! I have put mine as high as 12* but it started knocking, so I went back down to 10* advance.

And those BLM numbers are terribly high. 128 is dead on, and 160 is as high as it goes. Yeah it was getting a little better w/ more advance w/ what cost to the motor!!

Yes, I know. Base set at 6º, but I say: 20, 22º in the "main spark advance table".
