Hissing/whining noise?
Hissing/whining noise?
When I started my car (89 Formula-350 TPI) last night, there was a whistling/whining noise during idle. It seems to get a little louder as I accelerate but sometimes seems to go away when at constant RPM? What could this be? Is it safe to drive like this? Thanks a lot!

if it's a whining, look at the alternator. Could be a bearing going bad in any of the accessories. A hissing would most likely be a vacuum leak. Good luck sealing it if it's tuned port.

i'd check the alternator...mine was whining, i figured it was just the belt and i could let it go for a few days till i got paid....on the way to get my check, my alternator froze up.
