The best oil for a new engine?

I just had my motor rebuilt and I'm curious what you guys think is the best oil? I have been thinking about running synthetic in it, but I don't really know that much about it. Also, can you run synthetic if it has had regular oil in it? Help me out!

I would not run synthetic oil until at least the rings are broken in. Wait until about 5000 miles or so & switch to syn.

IIRC when I had mine rebuilt, I put conventional 5w-30 and changed it after 1k, then 2 more changes, at 4k and 7k, then I switched to synthetic. My no. 1 cylinder burned oil, which the rebuilder attempted to fix but I lost patience with him. Got tired of paying $4/qt so I switched back to conventional after about 13k and have been running that way since. No. 1 cylinder still burns oil as evidenced by the spark plug.

The main issue that comes up when switching to synthetic is that it will tend to leak in high mileage engines, not a problem for you. I don't know of any reason not to switch to conventional from synthetic if you wanted to.

You can also mix the two. It not necessary to run one or the other. Just make sure you do the initial break in with the conventional.
