Starting problem
![Big Grin](https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
My wife allowed me to take my bird out of storage since the kids have gotten a little older and I finally have time to work on it.
The question I have is when I crank on the engine the oil gauge drops to 0 then builds up to 15 psi then the car will start .
This takes about 30 seconds of cranking the motor constantly.
After it starts no problems running at all the car runs like it was new no bogging out , or studdering, At first I assumed it was a fuel pump problem. Now I really don't think it is cause the car runs so smooth after starting , the oil gauge holds a steady 30 psi or higher after the car starts.
Thanks for any help that you can give

Have you had this problem for awhile or is this the first time you have started the car in a while. Did you change the oil when you took it out of storage. Also, you don't want to crank it too long at one time or you will kill the battery and wear out the starter. I mention this because of your comment about 30 seconds of cranking constantly

I actually had the problem before I put it into storage.
When I pulled it from storage I placed new plugs in , new wires for the plugs , changed the oil, did a tranny flush, and a coolant flush.
I placed it in storage when this started kids were born and no time to work on it, my brothers says it needs a fuel pump.
but I don't believe him he is the type of guy that uses vice grips to turn a nut
Yea I hate cranking it for that long to start it ,I replaced the fuel relay when I brought it out of storage , I was wondering if the oil pump sensor could cause this problem .

Batterys about a month old.
The car runs great after cranking for that 30 seconds , it just like it starving for the initial fuel to start it , and the oil pressure needs to build up on the oil gauge before it turns over.

Im not sure if its like TPI but with TPI, the fuel pump relay primes the system with fuel before startup. If it dosent, when the car is cranking, it will eventually give voltage through the oil pressure switch.
Try replacing the relay.

Thanks Trickster and all the folks that posted about the relays and fuel problems it helped me a great deal. One thing them chilton books suck for pictures. I swear they were better looking books for the earlier cars easier to see the pictures. The factory services manuals how much does a set of them run for now a days.

The Man who forgot to read the plans.
P.S are the 2 relays that are next to each others the same exact relays or diffrent in settings .
