clunking/bangin noise

I have a 89 Ta that i just finished up a header/ypipe install on.

It already had a hooker 3 inch catback.

right now its running wit the ypipe and catback theree, but nothing inbetween where the cat was, i have to get my cutout welded in place there instead. Heres my question. When i put the car in gear i get this weird banging/clunking/hitting noise from the right side dash/underside of the car. Havnt had someone else with me to look at it yet while its in gear but i have no idea what it could be? Think it may be the ypipe without the catback or something? The more i get on the gas the quicker the banging gets! It doesnt do it in park either.

any ideas?

joe

I had a noise just like that on my '89 Caprice LO3. Ended up being a loose exhaust flange coming off the exhaust header. Tightened it up and is nice and quiet now.

Well i have custom true dual exhaust so it would be the right exhaust pipe connecting to the stock header flange. So in your case you are correct. There are two bolts that hold them together so all i did was pull em off, never seize em, and tighten em. No more noise.
