What do you guys think about a Comp XE 274 in a 383? The heads will be stock LT-1 vette heads from '70 and the intake will be a Performer RPM. The comp ratio will be around 10:1 For those not familiar with the XE 274, it is a hydraulic flat tappet with 230/236 duration @ .050 and approximately .480/.487 lift. i think lsa is 110, but i don't remember. I know the heads suck, but we are dealing with limited resources right now, they could be changed to ironeagles later.

i have the XE 284 in my 406 and i love it, but i think it would be way too big in a smaller motor with stock heads.

any help would be appreciated.

I had that cam in my 400, it ran great. I'd say you should be happy with it. Run 1.6 rockers if possible; you'll have to up the spring size to 1.45" for that though.

I've heard of guys running a cam like that in a 350, which produces a lot of lope, but on a 383 it should be just right. (I think the 230 range duration is recommended)

Perfect! I have the XE284 in my 383, but 3000 stall and 4.11 gears. It ought to pull great in your 383. And you are dead on. The Dart heads will be a prefect head setup for your 383 too.
