Anything else I need before replacing computer carb/distrib with non computer

I'm going to be replacing my 86 Firebird's computer controlled Quadrajet and HEI distributor with an Edelbrock 1406 (sitting on a 7101 intake) and a vacuum advance carb. Basically, this will take the computer out of the loop for the most part. I don't want to actually completely remove the ECM harness and all, but just disconnect it.

However, my question is... Is there anything else that can go haywire by just disconnecting the carb and distributor from the computer, besides the SES light being on all the time (which it is, anyway, because the O2 sensor wire is crisping to the side of the header). It's an LG4 305 with a TH700-R4, in case you didn't look at my sig.

Nope, that should be all that you need.
If you have an electronic speedo and you disconnect the harness from the ECM, your speedo might not work since the VSS sender goes through the harness to the VSS Buffer then to the speedo cluster.
I made the mistake of cutting off the harness and having to figure out how to wire the sender straight to the buffer. Pete helped me with a tech article showing the wire color codes and where they go.

You might want to check about the lockup of the converter.

I just did that swap to my car over the weekend. Really easy, anyone can figure it out easily. With an automatic you want to figure out how to keep the converter locking up or you gonna lose major gas mileage. Good thing i have standard, didn't have to fool with that stuff. Only thing else I noticed was the Check engine light was constantly on [of course] just duck tape it out.

I did that exact operation with that exact carb. It was the biggest mistake I have made on the car. I ended up going back to the computer controled qjet. I had nothing but problems and poor performance. Just be warned and I hope it works out better for you. Just leave your electrical disconnects on the car so you can go back to the qjet if you need to.
