too rich during cold start

This is not so much a problem, but a case of undesired operation. I have a 1982 t/a with the 305 crossfire injected engine. Every time I start it up in the morning (especially when the outside temp is below 50 deg) the engine runs rediculously rich. So rich that I can feel that a few cylinders aren't firing. So rich that if I stand in the garage with the car as it runs my eyes start to burn. I have most of the emissions hardware removed so I'm pretty sure it's not as important for the engine to get warm. My question is: is there some way to trick the computer into thinking the car is warmer than it actually is? I've read somewere that a resistor can be substituted for the temp sensor on tuned port injected cars to trick the ecm into thinking its at a different temp. The purpose being to keep it in open loop. But could I put a resistor in place of my coolant sensor to trick it into thinking the engine is already warm and doesn't need to dump a gallon of fuel into the engine at cold start to warm it up? I understand that it's still is important to let an engine run for a bit before driving it, but premium octane gasoline is getting dang expensive...

what emissions units did you remove? some early injection units use the emission controls to function at start up. Im not to fluent with X fire I have never dared to touch the dreaded ceise fire injection system
