rerunning O2 sensor and wiring
Basically the other day my O2 sensor wire connector to the rest of the wiring melted up against my manifolds or the valve covers...either one. basically the dude i bought my car from did horrible wiring. I now need to completely running a longer wire to my O2 sensor in a different path like along the firewall instead of infront so close to the damn pullies. could i just crimp a long piece of wire to the oringional? where can i find the Male connector the connects with the female part on the O2 sensor?
If this cant be done, where does the O2 wiring eventually go to?
Thanks for any help

Also now my Idle keeps jumping around too. I just adjusted the timing and the idle with the screws on the carb. some times the cloud of blue smoke will puff up out of my open air element. after the car sits idling for a while it won't do it anymore. Whats going on!?!?! all this crap started when i replaced my cat with a dead one from when i bought the car and sealed all the exhaust leaks.
the engine was only rebuilt about 15,000 miles ago too.

You should be able to just crimp a wire in to replace the broken piece, but soldering would be better.
Fix that and your jumping around/roug idle will probably be fixed as well. Right now the computer is seeing a zero voltage reading from the O2 sensor and thinks you've got a very very lean condition and is probably dumping fuel into the engine.
As for the CAT, are you saying you installed a dead one? If so, you've also changed the exhaust back pressure config and could be causing some problems there, but tht shouldn't be affecting the idle. Fix the O2 wire and then see where you're at. Wish you hadn't messed with the carb settings before fixing this wire....
Good Luck!!!

I didn't mess with the adjustments that much...nothing i can't fix. but I will sodder the new wire on and see what happens.
with something like that, I'd definately solder and use heat shrink tubing. If you crimp and corrosion gets in the connection, it'll change the voltage reading the ECM sees and will lean your engine out accordingly. Not a good thing
If you absolutely have to crimp, use some kind of liquid tape on the terminal after you crimp it, and then wrap it with electrical tape really good.

So its okay to actually just sodder the two ends together? I can just cut off the actual melted connectors and just sodder and cover in heat wrap? I want to clean up the wiring in my engine bay and its okay to make the wire longer and run along the firewall rather then across the block?
Thanks for the help!!
Thanks for the help!!
On the vehicle side of the wiring, you can extend it as much as you need. I think I remember reading somewhere that the o2 side is actually some kind of resistance wire. Don't know if it's true or not, but if it is I would just buy a new o2 sensor. $25 bucks and your supposed to change them out as a tuneup item anyways...
