2 engine symptoms..probably transmission?

2 engine symptoms..probably transmission?
I've noticed two problems on my 86 iroc (automatic) that are making me a bit nervous.
First: when the engine's cold, it's hesitant and shakes when I touch the gas pedal in reverse.
Second: At higher RPM's on the freeway, (between 15 and 25) when it's held at a constant speed the engine stutters. It slightly revs and then falters, only by a few rpm but I'm afraid of what it's syptomatic of...
Any suggestions about what it could be?

those are things someone needs to experience to diagnose. could be several things and are hard to pinpoint diagnosis over a keyboard.

If your IROC is a TPI, check the PROM in the ECM. GM had a TSB on the original PROMs that addressed the low RPM "chuggle" and several other issues. There is a replacement PROM available for about $50.00. My '86 TA acted like a different car with the improved programming.
