new here got a few Q's
hi first off im from red deer alberta canada and i currently drive a bmw. always wanted a f body camaro. thus why i am selling my bmw right now and then am going to buy an f body altho i have a few q's. i am looking for something fairly new probably 88+ now i have seen that i beleive starting in 91 there was a RS model is there a difference between the RS and the Z28. if so what are the pros and cons. also i have read many articles on the 305 TPI and i was wondering what you can do as per engine mods on this engine. also are there any repairs that are frequent on these cars. what should i look for when buying one of these? your imput would be greatly appreciated and i am looking forward to joining the board.
also if anyone wants to add me to msn my email is

iroc-z's were out in 85-90, and z28's were out in 91 and 92. those are the "top of the line" models. they either came 305 w/ a 5 speed manual tranny and TPI, or 350 with an auto tranny and TPI. 350's and 305's are pretty quick, but the 350's make more power than a 305 would with bolt ons.
RS's are usually poked fun of for being "Really Slow". most came with a v6 or a really slow v8 that can't even outrun my mom's corolla (ask me how i know and i probably wont tell you because it's common sense).
If you're selling a bmw, get yourself either a 1990 Iroc-Z (last year of the irocs), or a 91-92 z28. depends on what body you like better. the iroc-z to me looks like a muscle car while the z28 looks like a sports car with the raised spoiler and groundfx. in 1990, they changed the dashboard of the iroc-z, and kept it for the z28. i really don't like the 89 and earlier dash because it's ... i dunno, just doesnt look as good as the 90-92 dash. JMO though
If you have the cash, get yourself a 90-92 camaro, 350 automatic with the G92 RPO code. the G92 option comes with dual cats (rated at a higher hp), better rear end gears (3.23 for 350's), and a few other goodies. I like the way the 91-92 z28's look, but i would NEVER sell my 1990 iroc for one of them... ppl tell me that it looks good next to my '67 in my driveway, and the iroc spoiler kinda makes it look like the '67 in a way... but yea, like i was saying...
if you want a gas saving car that looks ok, get yourself an RS and never expect to be fast... even ppl who mod up their tbi's and carbed rs's really don't get any faster. if your looking for speed, get yourself a nice 350 and start moding the crap out of it.
hope i helped some

Welcome to the boards. Cool that you're wanting to sell a Bimmer to get a 3rd gen! dj is right, hold out for a 90-92 IROC or Z28. Also beware that some IROC-Z cars came with the lowly TBI 305 mentioned above, so keep your eyes open when considering a car. Also remember that no matter what engine is actually in the car, the seller will likely try to tell you it's a 350, and most of them aren't, at least when they left the factory. There is a lot of good info in the Technical Articles section of this board, read it, learn it, know it.

yeah, you've gotta look at the VIN# on the windsheild for the 8th digit to be a 8. that's the # the L98 iroc-z's came in. you could also look under the hood for a sticker that states if the engine is a 5.0 or 5.7 L engine.
i love the way a 3rd gen looks in either black or blue. i couldn't find a black one so i opted for the blue one
check my sig if you wanna see a pic... they're ugly pics, but that's all i have for now , lol

tpi looks like this... but this one is all chromed up, so don't expect it to look so nice
if you look at a camaro, and it doesn't look like it has this under the hood, then it isn't tpi.

As the owner of an RS with an LO3 (305 TBI) I would say go for the 350.
And if you have your heart set on a 1190 IROC just be aware that they made the least number or IROC's in that year than any other. I'm pretty sure about that. So if you find one in good shape it may be pretty pricey!!!
