can u burn out a wire or relay by leaving key in crk?
thieves tried to steal my car but i had it well disabled.
after rebuilding the steering column they trashed, the key never worked quite right and would stick in the crank position but for some reason the starter would not stay cranking once the engine started up. But the temp gauge would go all the way around to the other side and stay there.
well, after stalling my car the other day at a light, restarting it and driving off....i did not notice i left the key in the crank position til i looked at my gauges a bit later.
Anyways, i parked my car when i reached my destination...and tried to start it but nothing happened....no cranking.
i got out the screwdriver, put the key in ON, the instrument panel responded with its chime, and i manually started it. my starter is fine...but for some reason my key wont start it.
i checked for voltage at the clutch safety switch and i get nothing. so i checked at the ignition switch and i get 12 v.
i tried looking for the relay and think i may have found it but its not mounted to the wall behind the side panel cuz all my wires are a frenzy. my alarm seems to be hooked up to the relay so i dont know if its an alarm relay or its the starter relay that the alarm is hooked up to in order to kill the engine during a break-in.
the relay seems to be connected to the same yellow wire coming out of the ignition switch.
i have yet to check for voltage at that relay... but i wanted to see if you guys thought i was on the right track.....and wanted to know if its possible to burn a wire out or relay out by leaving the key in crank like that.
Thanks for any help guys,
Rick
