Blown Fuse Trouble, Need Help

Well three days ago as I was adjusting my TV cable my "Guages" fuse blew. I've checked everything that I can think of. Anyone with any helpful ideas? Now my speedo, oil, or amp guages don't work. When I hooked up my laptop and ran WinALDL the speedo on it won't work neither, but it does show the volts and temp. If I don't get it figured out by monday it'll have to go to the shop. Please help, Bobby

CP,

Simply adjusting the TV (detent) cable should not have created that problem. Something nearby may have been disturbed in the process, or you may just have a coincidental problem.

In either case, the GAGE fuse feeds a lot of circuitry. Disregard the fact that the VSS isn't reporting through the ALDL for now - It's probably related to the GAGE power problem. Maybe this will help:

Well how about this in the morning I'm going to unhook all the guage sending units and see if I can then put the fuse in and it not blow. If it doesn't blow I'll just hook them back up untill the fuse blows and then work on that sending unit. If the fuse blows I guess that I'm at the end of my wits on this one. Anymore ideas or recomendations will be tried but if not running proper by lunch on Monday its goto go some where. *** I hate this, I bet its been 10 years since I've took a car to a shop, I build my own motors and all and now I can't even fix a damn blown fuse, this one really takes the fu{king cake! Oh well I guess we all get hung up sometimes, just why me with this and now! Thanks, Bobby

You might wanna look at the wiring for the EGR valve.

Mine was doing the same thing and I found one of the EGR wires pinched and was grounding out, blowing the gage fuse. Depending on how I moved the wire bundle around, it wouldn't do it.

In your case, with the TV cable running next to the EGR wiring, it sorta makes sense.

Mine just did it tonight. I was warming the car up after work, she was idling for about 1 min and I had to move the car, so i put her in Reverse for maybe 10 seconds, then Drive for about 20 seconds just to move it a few feet away, I put her in park, the engine was almost gonna stall so i revved her up to 2000 to keep her going, then gages die, im at work, so i grab the fuse i could find in the consol of my car, happened to be a 10. popped her in ther, and she blew again.

I wasn't wiring ANYTHING! just warming the car, However it was quite cold tonight, probably the coldest weather shes been in so far.

Any thoughts??? I really would like to get em workin, especially cause of that stupid warning beep thing that just pierces the ears.

Well I never could find out what it was. Yesterday the '91 got took to the shop, I'm going to check on it tomarrow. I didn't like driving mine cause the VSS sensor wasant giving any data so the convertor wouldnt lock up. I'll keep ya updated on this. Thanks, Bobby

Mine was a loose wire up behind the fuse box, fixed that, and so far so good.
