Head bolts or studs?

I'm putting AFR heads on my new engine as soon as they arrive and I was wondering if there was any real advantage of using studs for my application??

I would recommend sticking with bolts. There is nothing in your buildup that indicates a need for studs. They make swapping the heads exremely difficult, especially in a 3rd gen where there isn't clearance in the stock chassis for the heads to come straight up off the block deck far enough to clear the studs without interference. Additionally, they often prove to be more difficult to get to seal than bolts, why I don't know, but that has been my experience as well as that of many others.

Good quality new head bolts, with washers, are the best choice in your application. You definitely want the washers to keep the bolt heads from galling against the aluminum. ARP, Mr. G, Moroso, etc. as well as some of the head mfrs. can supply suitable hardware.

Cool....I've been using ARP fasteners for everything else, so I'll go with their headbolts. Thanks.
