buying new tires which to choose
Hi, i have been looking for an iroc for sale and found a really nice one in illinois (however you spell it). the guy said it has the origional tires. the car only has 38,000 miles on it, so this could be a bad thing for him as they could be dry-rotted which would lower the value. my father wanted me to post a message asking you guys what tires you have and or what would you reccomend. as this is my first car i really dont want racing slicks lol but i do want some rubber for some nice burn-outs or some quater mile passes. Also as this is my first car, i am going to owe my parents about $4,000 for the car as i dont have all the money for it, so i cant spend to much on tires when i have to pay my parents back. thanks for your time, albert III

Yo Al,
A nice set of meats for our cars will set you back like $150 to $200 EACH. These would be for a high quality street radial with a Z speed rating. Now, at that price, are you going to sit there and burn them off? You have the money for that? What about when something breaks because you're doing a burnout, you got money to fix that?
My car will do excellent burnouts, but I try to avoid that stuff as best I can, it's expensive. Plus, if the bulls see you doing it, the ticket is expensive.
How much is your allowance?

i know what you mean tremo. i wont really get on it every day, only a few times it's whole life. I really dont beat on my toys, but i do know what you mean by your statement of things breaking. I was kinda looking for what tire brand and models to chose, but you did set me in a good direction on not beating on it. thanks again albert III
P.s i dont get an allowance but i do have a few $$$CASH$$$ jobs lol. my parents wont give me an allowance they said the stuff around the house are "priarities" lol.

The Kumho 245/50/16 is supposed to be a good tire, and it's easy to find for less than $100/each.

after 2 years of working in the tire business, I've worked on a surprising number of f-bodies. dayton ZR's are not bad. Kuhmo's are a great bargain tire. good compromise of price and performance. get the Kuhmo ecsta Supra 712's. also.... BFG's... I dunno what they cost, but some g-force T/A's would be good too. hope this helps.

$55.00 each. Decent tire. It's about 260.00 for all four shipped to your door. Then you need them mounted and balanced.

thanks
for some reason i didnt recieve any e-mails stating that there were more replys on the post. I came accross the old e-mail this morning and was going to use it to see if anyone replyed, and they did! lol. thanks for all your replys, they will help me greatly, as i am probably going next weekend to look at the car. Thanks again for the quick replys. albert III
If you want a QUALITY tire I'd look at brands like BFG, Michelin, Goodyear, etc. While Michelin's performance tires are probably out fo your budget, you can get 245/50/16 BFG KDW's (which are a great tire, just search for reviews) for about $130 each. I dont really know much about Goodyear, but they are good tires too. There is more to a tire than just how much it costs, such as rotational uniformity, progressional feel at the limits of traction, lateral stability, high speed stability, how it reacts to heat buildup and treadwear, etc. Just keep in mind that there is a reason some tires cost less than half the price of others.
Also just as a note, doing burnouts can permanitly damage tires which are not designed for it (not slicks). The extreme heating of the tire can actually alter the rubber compound, reducing its ability to grip.

Kumho Ecsta Supra 712's are really good tires for cheap. We have ran them on my brothers 95 camaro for a year now and they still have about 75-80% treadlife left. 255/50ZR16 from tirerack.com are $88 each.
