two quck questions...
two quck questions...
if these sound stupid please bear with me, im not exactly the "car-guy" but anywho...
first: what exactly is a tune up?? when i got my car tuned up they changed plugs and thats about it. when people on the boards talk about tune ups, it sounds as if tuning up entails more than plugs.
second: would it do me any good to remove the belt from my AC unit?? there is no cold stuff left in there and its just a big clutter. so until i get it taken out, would it do me any good whatsoever to remove the belt, or would that be completely moronic??
thanks again.

NOTE - I never, ever trust mechaics, and trust those high school drop out flunkys who work at speedy oil who call them selves mechanics even less. Every single time I have been in one of those places ( Company car oil change, Tagging along with mom, keeping a girl Company... ) THey have either Ripped the Concerned party off, screwed something Up, Or Been Just blatantly Ill Informed.
AS far as the AC Is concerned, If its out of R12, its gonna cost you some $$ to get it retrofitted for the new stuff ( cant recall the name right now ) For me, It wasnt worth It.
I was Just gonna Leave In there, Untill I got around to retrofitting it, But then the Clutch started screeching. So I yanked it, Ive got TTops anyhow, I dont need AC
taking the belt off isnt going to Hurt anything, It can cause Your AC compressor to lock Up, But if its Not doing anything In the first place, who cares, right ?
It will free up some horsepower, Hard to Say How Much. The biggest thing removing Mine Did for Me was Clear Up Space In the Engine Bay.

You can start with something like this. Use what you want. It's not copyrighted yet:
A basic tune-up MUST include:
Cooling system inspection;
Clean or replace spark plugs;
Ignition wire testing;
Distributor cap/rotor (if you don't have the OptiSpark);
PCV valve cleaning or replacement;
Air filter;
Cleaning the IAC;
Checking/setting TPS voltage;
Check/adjust minimum air rate;
Check/adjust timing;
Code scan;
The proper steps in fuel injector system service are:
Check fuel pump operating pressure and volume.
Test pressure regulator for operation and leakage.
Flush entire fuel rail and upper fuel injector screens to include pressure regulator.
Clean fuel injectors.
Decarbon engine assembly.
Clean throttle plate and idle air control (IAC) passages.
Check minimum air flow rate and adjust if needed.
Relearn onboard computer.
Cleaning injectors is not a "basic" tune-up procedure.
To clean the injectors and system correctly takes about two hours if you're experienced and have all the right equipment, about four hours
longer if it is your first time and/or you only have basic tools and instruments. When performing this, you should also test fuel pump output
volume and pressure - these are critical to proper operation of the system. You can have the fuel system power-flushed, but most of us don't
have the equipment to perform this at home. This seems to be a good procedure if done correctly.
The advantage to the old-fashioned way of cleaning injectors is that you get to actually see the injector screens and spray tips. And while you
have everything disassembled, you can easily do the intake plenum modifications that the factory should have done. You can also clean up that
mess under the plenum and fuel rails, and get a good look at the EGR, which should be pulled and inspected if you're already that far. Once you
perform this, you'll appreciate the need for using good fuel and keeping a clean fuel filter.
Scheduled Service
It's not just changing the oil. This is a generic outline of GM recommended service procedures and intervals. Verify the correct interval an
procedure with your owner's or shop manual.

Underbody Flush / Inspection
Body Lubrication
Door Hinges, Latches, Lock Cylinders

30000 Mile Service
Differential Service
Belt Inspection
Front Wheel Bearing Repack *
36000 Miles Service

Cooling System Service
Flush & Refill
Condenser/Radiator Cleaning
Front and Rear Brake Service

Distributor Cap, Rotor, Coil Test
Air Filter
Vacuum Hose/Fuel system Inspection
PCV system Inspection
50000 Mile Service
Front Shock Absorbers
Rear Shock Absorbers
Emissions Service
Evaporative Canister Filter
Oxygen Sensor Replacement
Determine your car's actual mileage, then determine if each of these procedures have been done at the correct intervals. If you don't have a
hard receipt showing a service within the specified mileage, you'll need to do it now. If your car has 60,000 miles and it hasn't had a distributor
cap in the last 30,000 miles, you need to replace it.

haha, well let me rephrase.
I never trust mechanics, when they have something on the line ( Money )
The Last Guy I worked with was a Mechanic at the Local goodyear here. He was paid by a friend of mine to Swap a Motor Into his 78 vette. That guy did teh worlds ****tiest Job. It was weird, because at that time I had just started playing with Cars
So i figured that this guy Must know what He was doing, I mean this was His Job.
But I would sit there watching him thinking " I could have sworn I read someplace not to Do it that Way" Or stuff to that effect.
WHen he then tried to Get the ignition TImed up to start the Car, he Couldnt even figure that out.
Thats the last time I took a Mechanics word For it without Finding out for My own.
Personally, the only things I would/have paid someone to Do to My car was bend and install the Cat back, cause I dont have a lift or a welder. Alignment Obviously, and to Mount and Balance my tires. And I will prolly pay someone to Install My Gears in the 3rd memeber. I dont feel like blowing that out by my inexperiance, too muich $$$
