Broken Hood Release Cable
Broken Hood Release Cable
Having a great afternoon, decided to fiddle around a little on my baby TA, pulled the hood release lever, heard the snap, said a few choice words... Anyone have an idea on how I can now get the hood open without breaking everything???

Sadly enough, under the hood of our cars isn't very secure. You can crawl under the nose with or without jacking it up, reach infront of the radiator support and pull the "scissors" together. It will release. Another idea is if maybe the latch just needs greased. Occasionally I need to push on mine before it pops up.

84FTA, I've been considering welding some steel across the bottom of the hood latch for that exact reason...

Yeah Me too, Cause Im pretty sure LG4 Junkyard parts sell pretty good On the Black market
85, Did it actually break, Or just pop out of the latch ?
When I got mine it didnt work properly at all, had to Pull Wiggle pry sorta deal. It would also make a loud popping noise but the hood would not Open. I had to pull up On the passenger side of the hood, Right above the headlight to get it to Pop. A little Lithium grease and Now it works every time

Thanks for the tips, I'll be trying again tonight... got my butt kicked at work yesterday and was too tired to try anything. I'll let you know how it goes tonight. I posted another place and someone suggested removing the kick panel and checking the handle... P.S. got any tips for removing window tint glue without fragging my rear defrost?

Clicking the hood open from under the bumper will be much easier than removing the kick panel... and if all's fine up front, then you know you have to do the work for the kick panel.
Is the tint still on the window? If so, then go to: http://www.tintdude.com/remove.html

I managed to get the tint off pretty easily, but the glue is another story... I've tried wd-40 and lighter fluid (both of which I saw somewhere on the net) and neither one did anything but stink up my car.

3M maked adhesive removeer which works well, or try some Berkible 2+2 carb cleaner, that stuff is mean...either way i dont think you're gonna melt the glue right off, this stuff will soften it and you'll still have to rub a lot...have fun!

Sounds kinda simple but any amonia based glass cleaner works great. Spray it on and let it sit for a minute. Then, using a green nylon scrub pad, scrub off the adhesive. Be sure to keep plenty of cleaner on the glass. Then wipe off with a rag. It took me about 30 min to do my hatch and only about 10 for the side glass.

Got it!!! The cable came off of hood latch. Once I got the hood open I was able to put it back on, but it's still got a lot of slack in it.

Yeah Tom. I have a prototype one I made in my garage after my carb was stolen by similiar methods hood opening methods. I made a small box around the bottom of the latch, then sides of the box, I welded (towards the inside so you can't see/reach them) nuts and have it bolt from the top. I haven't had time to install it or try it yet though. I still need to drill the holes in the metal piece that goes to the rad. support andcut a hole for the cable. Right now I have an alarm on with a hood trigger for piece of mind (not that anyone else where call the cops, but I'm more concerned about a carb theft in my driveway than at a grocery store).
