416 head problem
Well I just got my heads earlier this week and today I decided I was going to bolt them on and get everything ready for my engine swap when I noticed that the head on the passenger side only has one accessorry hole. How am I supposed to run my serpintine bracket setup with only one accessory hole on the passenger side? I guess I just have to drill a whole for? Anyone who has the heads with a serpintine setup please help me out. I cant do anything until I know whats going on.

I already tried that, I switched them back and forth as many ways as i could think of. Either way it still ends up that I only have one accessory hole on the passenger side. Do you think that maybe I have two drivers side heads?

my heads are the same on both sides, (have a plug for the coolant sensor in one)
both of my heads have 3 holes in the front (if on the passenger side)
BTW these are also 416s

So vic you have 3 holes on each side and yours are 416s? I am sure mine are 416s and the drivers side has three but the passenger side doesnt. I have switched them around many times and no matter what it comes out this way. wow this sucks, I guess I will just drill the extra holes in.

Well I found the problem, they are both for the drivers side. They both have the hole for the coolant temp guage. So the side really does matter on these heads because on the front the have 3 holes for the accessories and on the back only one. So it would matter which head they were. Now I have to talk to the guy I bought them from and probably get my money back.
All the castings are the same. They almost all have tapped holes for sensors, but are generally plugged when not used. You may a pair of heads from a car with a sensor for a fan switch and one for a gauge if both of the plugs are out.

still, how does that explain why no matter what way I bolt them on I still only have one accessory hole on the passenger side? I know plent of people on here on running these heads with serpintine brackets, why cant I ? AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH.

That's how the 416 heads I sold were. 3 in one end, one in the other. You could put them on so you would have 3 on one side, 1 on the other, or vise versa.

The heads are the same. There is no driver's side or pass side one.
The reason you only have a hole in the one for a temp gauge sending unit, is because there's a pipe plug in the other head. If you had an engine such as the L69 with an electric fan, you'd have both holes without plugs, and senders in both of them.
The reason the 416 heads don't have the serpentine-specific hole, is because that casting quit being made before the serpentine system was introduced. No "features from the future" on them. Bummer.
I doubt you can drill the hole without hitting water.

well that sucks, but there has got to be a way because I know I have seen guys with serpintine setups running these heads. I will figure out something, even if I have to fabricate something to hold the brackets up. I have been waiting to long to get this engine together to let this stop me.
