heads

I'am buying some heads for my 305 lg4 carbed. I was looking at the 305 sr torquers. What I'am wondering is would I get the same horsepower gains out my stock heads if I ported and polished them and installed 1.94 and 1.50 or 1.60 valves.
I'd rather not spend too much right now.

Yes i would say that if you P&P your heads and installed bigger valves. They would make just as power if not more then the 305 Torquers.

If you DO end up with the World heads, closely scrutinize their suggestion to use head gaskets for a 350 to provide valve clearance. I spoke with two application engineers at World (now in NYC) and questioned their suggestion. They based their recommendation on the available FelPro 305 SBC replacement gaskets' patterns. GM factory gaskets are constantly upgraded and sold under the same part numbers or superceding umbers. Current GM gaskets for 305s fit the World heads well, provide the necessary clearance, and seal the chambers more tightly than a 350 gasket to maintain higher compression. That's what I used.

From your location, Id guess you are from Canada. And if that is the case, then World heads are pretty pricey in Canada..I would know I bought a set. It would be much cheaper to do up the 416 castings you already have. The only real disadvantage is the Worlds have so much more meat on them to port them even further then factory castings.

Thanks for the responses.
Any idea of what the 305 s/r Torquers would give in hosepower and torque gains before porting and polishing them, and what the results would be after the porting and polishing?

I have a performer manifold,xe256 cam,headers,2.5 exhaust,hi-flow cat,rhino muffler 750 cfm quad carb,and light springs in the dist. total adv 36deg at 2000. Also open element with a k&n.
