from what I hear you should always run a trans cooler especially on hipo engines. I defintely am running one on my trans because im running 3000 stall and that will create tons of heat. Heat is not good for a trans.

A trans cooler is a good idea no matter what. Heat is what kills a transmission.

I had one setup like that, worked fine but a real difference, not really. The only advantage I had seen was a slight coolant temp drop by bypassing the intank radiator cooler.

i have a permacool duel cooler. not differance in preformance and since i don't have temp gauges i see no differance at all. logic would tell you less heat in the oil or trans is a good thing.

Ive got a trans temp gauge. Remind me to hook up a trans cooler and do a before and after. Same thing with the oil temp.

A stand alone trans cooler is one of the top 5 best things you can do for any performance application, even if it is very mild setup. Hot temps eat trans life like no other!!!

Engine oil temps are a whole differnet game. It is difficult to break down a good synthetic engine oil, not to mention the frequent change intervals also ensure you keep fresh oil in the system. For engine oil you also have the benefit of having the oil pump through a system that has temps maintained by the radiator and cooling system. Stand alone cooling for engine oil is far less necassary and more of a personal choice. Engine oil doesnt really heat up to high temps unless the engine is loaded in the upper Rs often and for extended times. Normal driving and cruising do not put serious loads on the engine oil, desert climats being the exception to the rule. Bsically engine oil temps hold in the range of 20*-40* above coolant temps, which is fine. Also cold engine oil is harder to pump which in turn robs power and cuts down on fuel economy. If you are running a 180* t-stat or less and your motor deosnt often see temps over 200* there is really no need for stand alone cooling, unless of course you race in circles. There is no need to run stand alone engine oil cooler in a drag race application.

It all depends on the situation ultimately.

I ran a engine oil cooler on my Iroc, did test between temperature with and with out, on a 300hp L98 (Flywheel) stock oil temps could approach 250deg. with the oil cooler the temps would math the water temp much more closely, - water temp 190-210 / the oil temp would be about 210-220 ( no more than 220 when engine was at it's hottest) many local engine builders in my area , with solid reputations will agree that they do help engine life, they are a good thing - not always so easy to plumb in a camaro, but I know my car performed more consistenly with it, oil pressure was more constant over all conditions would average 10psi more because the oil didn't thin as much from the heat. when my new sdpc 360vortec is broken in I will hook it back up.
