fuel in oil?
Ok, this is a bizzare one and I'll try to be brief. Recently I found fuel in the crankcase and found the old fuel pump had evidently blown a diaprham... ok, I've seen this before and an easy fix with a new pump and oil change.
I parked the car for a week as I haven't had time to work on it due to starting a new job. I go out today to start it and it wouldn't start. I did notice a gas smell in the garage on and off for a few days, but no external leakage anywhere, so while checking the battery, I checked the oil too. It smells like gas again! The level is also above normal... I have the same problem all over again!
Unless the new pump is defective, how on earth can the fuel get in the crankcase with the car just sitting? It was perfectly fine when I shut it down a week ago and the oil level was perfect with no gas smell at all. Other than a fuel pump being bad, I can't figure out how it's getting in there. I did notice when I opened the fuel tank cap that the tank had some pressure on it. I would think that it would have bled off after a week if there was any pressure trapped in there.
The only thing that seems to make sense is some kind of failure in the evaporative emissions system? Any ideas? Thanks for any suggestions.

float levels too high....parked the car on a steep gradewith bad needle seat valves....fuel return linne if... equipped not working...ruptured fuel pump diaphram......unvented fuel tank with expanded gas fumes causeing excess pressure in fuel line....fuel soaked carb floats....engine running extremely rich.....timing to retard worn engine rings just to name a few things that may cause fuel in the crankcase......dont feel so bad it happened to me 2 times once with the old pump and once with a new mechanical pump and my engine has a fuel return line too
I had 2 1/2 gallons of fuel in my crankcase....it actually hydrolocked on me
