not as powerful as it should

My friend who knows a lot about cars drove my 87 GTA with a 350 TPI and he said that it isn't as powerful as it should be. He said he drove some 305's that were as powerful as my 350. I was wondering if it is a 350 (I am pretty sure it is) and it also hesitates when I drive it I am gonna replace the fuel filter soon.. It has 119 thousand miles on it. what else should I do to it to make it run right.. thanks

First find out what engine you have. Look at the eighth digit on your VIN number. It should be a number '8' if it's the TPI 350 (B2L).
Letter 'F' if it's a TPI 305 (LB9).
As far as power mods, there's a zillion other threads pertaining to that, and people who could point you in the right direction. I know enough about the TPI's to be dangerous, but not really for power modding advice (i'm a carb guy).

With over 100k miles on it, replace the timing chain. This will wake that motor up.

it may have a low compression replacement engine in it from autozone or some other parts shop. Check the block & head casting numbers to see what they are.
