Need HELP! Having problems with the cansiter!
This is on an 89 Formula that has been swapped to a TPI 350.
We've been trying to find and eliminate the bugs in this car and I came across something I've never delt with before.
The charcoal canister is saturated with gas. And I mean saturated...turn it upside down and gas comes running out. I've read somewhere that when the canister gets like that it'll absolutly KILL your mileage and make the car run extremelt rich and rough.
What I'd like to know is how do we fix this problem? Is there a way to safely get rid of this canister? And what causes the canister to get like this?
Thanks in advance!

Edes absolutly right about replacing it. Once gas gets into it its toast.
The easiest way for that to happen is overfilling the tank. Theres a valve that is supposed to allow only vapor in. That also might have failed.
The canister not functioning properly shouldnt kill your gas milage or make your car run extreamly rich but it will hurt both of those in a minor way.

Make sure the purge valve is operating, tha vacuum source at the TB is intact, and the tank pressure control valve is operational.
You might be lucky and be able to purge the canister and "boil" the fuel out of the carbon. The warmer air and establishing air flow through the canister may clean it out. If not, a junk yard will probably have the whole assembly, control valves and all. Since many people have removed them and have to replace them for emissions compliance, they might not be as plentiful and cheap as you might think.
