Double Head Gaskets?
Who has doubled up head gaskets, and are there any side effects? Or what about steel shims? The thickest gasket I could find is .051 Thanks

I've used doubled head gaskets before on a BB Chevy engine used on the street with occasional 1/4 mile blasts.
Never had a problem at all!
Now if you read some of the stuff written by folks like Speed-O-Motive, they talk about how the quench is destroyed, detonation is more likely, etc., but it sure wasn't the case with me.
Email me privately, I'll give you some more 'poop'. I KNOW you'll be interested.

I agree with speedomotive, quench area is very important for power production. If i were you id take the opportunity to grind any sharp edges in the chamber, (that means pistons or head) and make everything completely smooth, this means valve reliefs, spark plug block, the outside edges of the chamber on the head, etc. not only will this knock down your C/R a bit, it will also reduce your chances of detonation substantially
