Noisy lifter

My #7 exhaust lifter has always made a little noise, so when I had to take the intake manifold off because of a leak I decided to replace it. Now, the #7 lifter is fine, but #4 is REALLY bad. I'ved tried adjusting the lash to compensate, but after a few seconds it just gets bad again.
My question is, do I have to replace the d*mn thing, or can I just let it be? Is there anything I can do to quiet it down while it's still in the engine?

Thanks,
Brandon

Well, at $11 a pop, I can't afford to replace all 16. I know it got a little dirt in it, because this problem didn't exist before I took off the manifold.
Also, can you tell me how would I know if it's the rocker arm that's bad?

Thanks,
Brandon

Well, I don't know what anyone else thinks about this, but if you think it is just dirt that got into it, the lifters can be disassembled, cleaned and reassembled. I've done this in the past with good results, but only on my daily driver (2.5 4 cylinder), and my dad's truck (3.9 Dodge V-6).

They aren't difficult to rebuild, the hardest part is getting the plunger out of it (they usually have some oil buildup in them that keeps it from springing out), then putting the clip back in that holds the thing together.
