cam swap tool

say guys i have recently seen a " cam swap tool" that eleminates the need to remove any of the top end of motor such as intake pushrods and so on. it a thin "sheetmetal cylinder that you grease and slide it in over the cam in the motor, slide the old cam out and slide the new cam in. remove metal sleeve.. has anyone heard of or used such a tool...

he isn't talking about those camshaft handles.

and as for the topic, that would NEVER work.

the clearence is too tight between the cam and the cam bearings, and what if the lobes aren't the same height as the bearings.....

either way, it won't work. and with a flat tappet cam, you need to change your lifters anyway

I dont think the lobes can be taller than the bearings. You wouldnt be able to get the cam past the rear-most lobe.

But gerenally, from all the engines i have seen, SBC and otherwise, the amount of clearance between the cam and bearings is very slim for a sleeving tool.

post a link or a pic. there's something like .005 oil clearance between the cam and bearing so that would require the "cam tool" to be around .0015 wall. ever see a .0015 feeler gage?
