New Engine Backfiring & Misfiring

I have an '87 GTA, and I just dropped in a new 350 with a Mini-Ram intake. The engine idles great but is misfiring and backfiring through the intake. It doesnt do it everything time, but when I drive it, the throttle response is delayed. The engiine will miss and backfire, and then the car takes off.

The timing is set at 6 where TPIS recommends. I have not had the opportunity to hook up a computer to the car yet. Im guessing it is some type of ignition problem. I have a new MSD distributor and 6AL box. Also new plugs, wires, and coil.

Any info or help please let me know before I have to take it to be tuned and diagnosed.

I had the timing at 6, 4, 5, and 6 again. Which direction should I try to go from 6?

i know it sounds dumb, but check and recheck firing order. sometimes it's the dumb little things that get us...

I'd suggest leaving the timing alone; and hook up the computer; and add more fuel. Sounds like classic "lean bog".
