changing alternator, How?

I posted the other day about how to change my alternator. So i went out today and bought the hex wrenches only to find that the bolts won't budge. These wrenches are very small, I don't think I can get enough leverage with them. Do you guys use a special type of hex wrench to get at that one bolt? There is another bolt in there that I thought was hex but on closer inspection I'm sure it is not. It's on the right side, looks almost rubber or plastic and has a very strange pattern. I'm about to shell out another $100 and have someone else do it. Has anyone else had trouble changing out this blasted thing?

I think they are Torx bolts, but I haven't looked in awhile, so the easiest way to get them is to buy a set of Torx bit sockets for a 3/8" drive ratchet, then you can use a long handled ratchet if you need more leverage. If they have a star-type pattern it is definitely Torx. Hope this helps.

I don't know if mine was just an oddball, but the bolts were different sizes. I'm not sure anymore what exactly, but it was like one was a T45, the otehr a T50.

They're torx..? Maybe the earlier thirdgens were different. I replaced the alternator on my 86 IROC this weekend, and it has regular bolts. Takes about 5-10 minutes to replace..

The serpentine system has the torx. The v-belt doesn't. Atleast that is the only difference that i'm seeing with the different peoples rides.
