I may have found the culprit to all my problems: Not being able to turn the tires easily, shaking under load, slopey idle while heated up. The culprit: Not hitting on all 8, one of the boots was not even snapped down onto the cap.

And the cap is ruined, I found atleast 2 cracks. Keep in mind the cap wasn't even off the car and I was just leaning over looking, so they were pretty obvious. When I put my car in drive and saw my oil pressure didn't drop, a huge smile came on my face. I was only aiming to try to get the damned spark plug I still haven't gotten out, didn't expect to fix so many problems with something so little.

Also, wouldn't a check engine light come on if I wasn't hitting on all cylinders? Could one cylinder dieseling cause any damage?

 

 

No. Our older generation ECMs don't monitor for individual cylinder misfire, like the newer OBD-II PCMs do. Our ECMs are only looking at overall engine conbditions based on very few inputs.

 

the newer obd2 system measure crank variances and idle to check for engine miss fires, obd 1 does not. you can acually get on a rough road on earier obd2 and set miss fire codes

 

Wow, this is like a night and day difference. Every stop light/sign I have come to today has black streaks from me spinning the tires. My oil pressure is back up where it should be, my idle is extremely smooth and consistant, my exhaust actually has a better throbbing/pulsating sound to it, the car doesn't shake under load. At 6:30 this morning I was doing a burnout in celebration, now everyone is going to wonder where all the rubber came from at the neighborhood entrance.

 

Nah, they'll just follow it to whichever trailer it was headed to. Piece of cake.

Sometimes it's hard to tell the difference between world-class and trailer-trash on-line. Even hard to tell the difference at first glance in person sometimes.

 

In any event, Rebel's story is typical - It's usually the little things that cause the biggest headaches. A failed or neglected part here and there can make a big difference. I'm guessing your fuel mileage might be a little better, too (as soon as you get your "happy foot" under control).

 

So my next line of work is to get a new cap, wires, and PCV. Cap I'll have by the end of the week, PCV I'll take from work, and wires I'll get off my next pay check.

 

Why wait till next paycheck?

Congratulations. Sounds like it could be a fun and profitable business to operate. Just don't be too quick to judge others. Some in here might be fairly comfortable themselves. And I hope you don't take that position with your present and future customers, or you might not have many of them for long. Like most of us, most of them also won't have a drag racing business, but you won't have the business without them, either. They pay the bills and fund your business, after all.

word...i stayed away from them for a long time, then decided to get one 'just in case' something came up and i needed more money than my bank allows me to withdraw in one day.

RB and Vader have been around the block a few times. In fact they'd been going around it for about a decade or better before you were born and haven't stopped. Vader was trying to gently offer some of the wisdom accumulated on those trips.

Can we assume your part ownership is by virtue of birth, rather than something you've built up or bought into with earned funds? If so, your comment about what has been handed to you is not exactly pity-inspiring (I don't suppose this "neighborhood entrance" is gated by any chance).

RB's light-hearted, tongue-in-cheek response to YOUR comment about tire marks was not out of line, as intended when made. Last I heard, the behavior you appeared to be bragging about is illegal in all 50 states on public roads & streets. It was your response to this light-hearted, tongue-in-cheek comment that started the flow down the creek.

So, lighten up, accept advice when offered for what it's worth, and lighten up already.
