Hey guys i got a firebird (actually different car but NEED HELP PLZ)and it stalled while driving at around 40mph. It was hesitating while at steady light gas. Now it wont start. makes sound like its gonna but wont turn. Ive been driving quiet a bit and may be low on gas. Someone that looked at it said that gas was feeding through the carb, and smoke was coming from the exhaust like when it first starts after i pressed the pedal and tried to start it. I tried jumping it using a portable starter and nothing. I was thinking it could be plugs but plugs wouldnt cause it to stall would it. What about timing or the timing chain? maybe that? I need some help fast! If it doesnt start up with a jump and some gas im gonna have it towed. pull a few plugs this week sometime and if its not that either take it to a shop or replace the timing chain myself.

 

good firsts steps would be the usual, verify that you have a good hot spark, air is getting in, you have compression, and timing is on.

try replacing the electronic control module in the distributor.

 

found out the problem it was the ignitoin coil. The people at autozone are so dumb though. They were getting a reading from the old one but it was coming from their fingers. LOL
