How is it that LT4 intake manifolds differ form LT1 equivilents? I read something about the ports being 0.01 inch higher, is this the only difference? If I removed that much material from the top of the intake ports on an LT1 head would it bolt right up?
Thanks
Thanks

The lt4 intake is not an upgrade over the stock lt1. Its just powder coated red and made to fit on top of the lt4 heads. There is no performance gain from the lt4 intake.

Actually it is said that the LT4 intake does flow better than the LT1. But regardless, no you won't be able to install the LT4 intake to your LT1 heads. Don't try. The port shape is just not the same. And i don't think your going to be able to machine it the same.

the lt4 heads have D shaped exhaust ports, but not the intake. never heard of D shaped intake ports. (we are talking about the lt4 intake, not lt4 heads.)Originally posted by N8MAN1068

The LT4 instake is .1" tall on the port size. The only reason for going with one is to say you have a full LT4 top end. You find it hard to get better performance out of the stock LT1 intake. You can port match the intake ports and have just about the best intake out there.

What Shifty said. The LT-4 intake/heads have an intake port roof that is slightly taller than an LT-1. Can't mix-n-match becuase the ports won't line up properly.
FYI- the intake ports and chambers on an LT-4 head are very very similar to a set of iron Vortec heads. The LT-1 heads (and matching intake) intake have ports that are just about the same size and shape as earlier small block Chevy heads (like the old TPI heads, etc.) but they have better chambers. The LT-4 heads (which were designed later) got the better chambers AND better ports. Technology marches on.

Thanks all. I wasn't looking for a boost in performance, its jsut that I need a carb manifold for an lt1 and an lt4 version came along at the right price, but if it won't fit it wont fit.

you can use an LT1 intake on LT4 heads (with machining) but you cannot use an LT4 intake with LT1 heads...
